Cabinet Announcement
On HAC’s key issues – fair rules for the short-term rental industry and support for labour shortages – we will be working with the Minister of Finance; the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship; and the Minister of Labour.
Below are some key portfolios of interest to the Hotel Association of Canada:
Bill Morneau – Minister of Finance
Minister Morneau will continue to lead the government’s work in growing the economy in a way that works for all Canadians. He will immediately launch a Budget 2020 process that works with Parliament to implement Forward: a Real Plan for the Middle Class.
Minister Mendicino will lead the government’s work to strengthen immigration and in so doing grow the economy. He will advance the government’s plan to welcome more people to Canada, including refugees, and make it easier for communities to welcome the workers they need most.
Filomena Tassi – Minister of Labour
Minister Tassi becomes Minister of Labour, a new responsibility tasked with implementing the government’s ambitious plan to create a stronger framework for economic growth in the Canada Labour Code and working with industry and organized labour to grow the middle-class.
Melanie Joly – Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages
Minister Joly will assume responsibility for Canada’s Regional Development Agencies within the Innovation, Science and Economic Development portfolio. Supported by six dedicated Parliamentary Secretaries, she will ensure the federal government is making a direct contribution to the economic growth of Canada’s regions, including in support of the Tourism sector. As Minister of Official Languages, she will continue to safeguard and promote Canada’s two official languages.
Mona Fortier – Minister of Middle-Class Prosperity and Associate Minister of Finance
Minister Fortier becomes a second Minister based within the Department of Finance. From that central agency, she will develop cross-government approaches to ensure that the prosperity and quality of life of the middle-class is central to government policy-making.
Diane Lebouthillier – Minister of National Revenue
Minister Lebouthillier will continue to ensure that CRA is fair, helpful and user-friendly. She will continue to implement a client-based service model, while also seeking new ways to counter tax-avoidance from wealthy individuals.
Pablo Rodriguez – Leader of the Government in the House of Commons & Quebec Lieutenant
Minister Rodriguez will support the government’s agenda in the House of Commons, including important work with the opposition and all members of Parliament.
Carla Qualtrough – Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Accessibility
Minister Qualtrough will help Canadians gets the skills they need for good quality jobs and develop measures that maximize labour force participation. She will also continue to lead the Accessibility file.The Hotel Association of Canada looks forward to working with all appointed members of cabinet.
